Enzo Maresca Sends Message of Support to Jack Grealish Following Everton Absence
Enzo Maresca Sends Message of Support to Jack Grealish Following Everton Absence Hugo Viana will handle Jack Grealish's long-term Man City future in 2027 The on-loan Manchester City forward saw his 2026/27 season thrown into serious doubt this week after Everton made the decision to leave Jack Grealish out of their eventual Carabao Cup fourth round win over Newcastle United at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Toffees manager David Moyes would later reveal to the media that Grealish's omission from the matchday squad was the club's decision owing to "a breach of club discipline", while Everton did not disclose any further details on the matter. Various reports, however, indicated that Jack Grealish's absence and the decision taken by Everton officials stemmed from an unauthorised absence from training in the lead up to the League Cup encounter. Speaking to reporters after the win on Merseyside, that sees Everton progress into the quarter-finals with an away tie at Fleetwood Town awaiting, David Moyes said on the matter, "You probably know I'm not going to give any details." The Scotsman continued, "It's a club decision, it's something I don't want to speak too much about." Now, the issue of Jack Grealish and events on Merseyside this week have been put to his parent club and Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca, who welcomed the midfielder back into his first-team squad throughout pre-season and the early weeks of the new competitive campaign. "I think it's not correct to talk about Jack in this moment, first of all because he's an Everton player. And second, because I don't have all the information. I don't have nothing to say," Maresca responded on the matter. Discussing Jack Grealish individually, Maresca issued words of support on the 31-year-old, as he admitted, "I still think that he's a good guy, good boy, big heart. And I still think that!" What does the future hold for Jack Grealish? It now remains to be seen whether Jack Grealish's exclusion from the Everton squad against Newcastle United will impact his ability to feature regularly for David Moyes during the rest of the season. The former England international enjoyed a fruitful loan spell on Merseyside last campaign before injury cut-short his season, and Everton have put their faith back into Grealish for a follow-up temporary spell this campaign. Manchester City are unlikely to see any future for Jack Grealish at the club when his loan spell ends at the end of the season, and with his contract at the Etihad Stadium expiring in June, the former Aston Villa captain will be forced to seek new options. Jack Grealish has enjoyed a hugely successful stay at the Etihad Stadium since his £100 million move from Villa Park in the summer of 2021, registering 159 appearances, scoring 17 goals, and recording 23 assists in the process. Throughout that period, Grealish won contribute heavily to a record-breaking four Premier League title triumphs in a row, as well as claiming the club's first-ever UEFA Champions League crown in the Treble-winning campaign of 2022/23.
