Real Madrid will have to pay €2.5 million to RB Leipzig if Yan Diomande wins the Ballon d’Or

Real Madrid will have to pay €2.5 million to RB Leipzig if Yan Diomande wins the Ballon d’Or One of the key figures in Real Madrid’s recent upturn in form has been summer signing Yan Diomande. The Ivory Coast winger has benefitted from Vinicius Jr.’s four-match suspension and made the left-wing position his own in the Brazilian’s absence. Real Madrid made a major statement when they invested heavily in the 19-year-old to sign him from RB Leipzig in the summer. Now, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany , Diomande’s transfer arrangement includes a Ballon d’Or clause. If the 19-year-old wins the individual accolade while representing Los Blancos , they will have to pay RB Leipzig around €2.5 million. Real Madrid’s Diomande deal includes special bonus The German club’s director Marcel Schafer is said to have insisted on including the clause in negotiations with the Spanish club. Diomande joined Real Madrid for a fixed fee of around €125 million. However, bonuses are said to take the deal up to €140 million. Yan Diomande has been brilliant for Real Madrid in recent weeks. The Ballon d’Or is an incredibly difficult clause to trigger, and a club would only include it if they had faith that the player could win the award at some stage in his career. For example, Tottenham Hotspur did not negotiate a Ballon d’Or clause for Harry Kane when they sold him to Bayern Munich. Had they done so, the English club would have financially benefitted from their former striker becoming the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner. Diomande hitting his stride at Real Madrid Diomande took some time to get going in the Spanish capital but has come into his own in recent weeks. He registered 13 goals and provided 10 assists in 36 appearances for RB Leipzig last season. This earned him a move to Los Blancos . Now, the Ivorian has produced three goals and four assists in 13 appearances across all competitions. He has also been defensively astute for Mourinho. He tormented Joao Cancelo repeatedly throughout that game. He also recently made the headlines for producing a piece of skill in training that has gone viral since. Real Madrid are unlikely to mind paying another €2.5 million if Diomande wins the Ballon d’Or. Diomande has a long way to go before he can reach that level, but the potential is most certainly there. It remains to be seen how the Ivorian fares for Real Madrid and whether his role and prominence change once Vinicius Jr. returns from suspension.
