Everton Eye This £25m Manchester United Forward: Should Moyes Risk A January Deal? Everton’s slow start has exposed a familiar problem: they struggle to turn promising spells into goals. David Moyes’ side have scored eight times in eight Premier League matches, conceding nine while collecting 10 points from two wins, four draws and two defeats. Thierno Barry has scored three league goals, but the squad offers little senior cover through the middle, leaving Moyes heavily reliant on one centre-forward. Summer departures made that shortage harder to ignore. Iliman Ndiaye joined Manchester City for a reported £60 million, while Beto left for £15 million. Barry has carried the central-striker workload, with academy forward Braiden Graham still short of top-flight experience. Brennan Johnson can cover multiple attacking roles, yet Moyes lacks another established option who can lead the line through a demanding winter schedule. That recruitment gap has now brought Manchester United into the picture. Football Insider reports that Everton are discussing a possible January move for Marcus Rashford, citing former Toffees chief executive Keith Wyness, who spoke on the outlet’s Inside Track podcast. Wyness described the discussions as strong and suggested Rashford could offer the attacking depth Moyes needs. The 28-year-old remains contracted at Old Trafford until 2028, but his future has attracted attention after loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona. Rashford has made six Premier League starts this season, playing 355 minutes without a goal or assist before a hip injury sidelined him. His pace and ability to play across the front line could give Everton more options in transition, although his current lack of output makes the potential investment a calculated risk. Should Everton take a financial risk on Rashford? (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images) Wyness compared the potential move with Jack Grealish’s arrival at Everton, arguing that Rashford could benefit from a similar change of scene. Yet the financial side demands caution. A reported £25 million valuation and Rashford’s substantial wages would put pressure on Everton, while The Friedkin Group’s sale plans cloud the club’s spending outlook, potentially limiting funds for other positions. Still, refusing to address the striker shortage has its own cost. Barry cannot shoulder every minute of a demanding season, and Everton need a forward who can threaten from wide areas as well as through the middle. A loan with an option to buy would limit the initial commitment and give Moyes time to assess Rashford’s fitness and contribution before considering a permanent deal. Everton should explore that structure, but only if Manchester United accept a meaningful share of the wage bill.
