Leeds United Eye £17m Winger: Should Farke Risk The Move?
Leeds United Eye £17m Winger: Should Farke Risk The Move? Leeds United have collected 11 points from eight Premier League matches, losing once and conceding six goals. Daniel Farke’s side sit seventh after wins over Newcastle and other league opponents, alongside five draws. However, their nine goals highlight room for improvement in attack, particularly as they look to turn more draws into victories. Farke has several wide options, including Noah Okafor, Harry Wilson, Daniel James and Brenden Aaronson. French prospect Jean-Mattéo Bahoya offers another option, although his contract expires in 2027. With Leeds United planning for the seasons ahead, another young winger could provide competition and greater depth, provided he offers qualities that the current squad lacks. That recruitment question has brought Sevilla’s Miguel Sierra into the picture. According to Sport Witness , citing Spanish outlet Orgullo Biri, Leeds are considering triggering the 22-year-old winger’s €20 million release clause, worth roughly £17 million. Sierra has scored twice and provided one assist in eight La Liga appearances this season, after making his senior debut last November. His estimated market value climbed from around £260,000 in June to approximately £6 million. Sevilla handed the Spaniard a contract until 2029 in April, with the release clause included. However, Sierra suffered an injury during the 3-3 draw against Levante on October 12 and required surgery. His recovery now complicates any potential move, while neither an official Leeds bid nor the player’s willingness to join the Premier League has been confirmed. Should Leeds United risk £17m on an injured winger? VALENCIA, SPAIN – OCTOBER 12: Robbie Ure of Sevilla FC celebrates scoring his team’s first goal with Miguel Angel Sierra of Sevilla FC during the LaLiga EA Sports 2026/27 match between Levante UD and Sevilla FC at Ciutat de Valencia on October 12, 2026 in Valencia, Spain. (Photo by Clive Brunskill/Getty Images) Leeds should maintain contact with Sierra’s representatives but avoid committing the full fee before medical staff establish his recovery timeline. His age and early-season output suggest room to improve, while his direct approach could suit Farke’s transition-based football. Still, a rise in estimated market value doesn’t prove he warrants a £17 million fee, and eight appearances offer only a limited sample. The board must balance ambition with squad requirements and financial discipline. Okafor and Wilson already occupy important wide roles, so Leeds need to establish whether Sierra could challenge them for regular minutes or serve as a longer-term investment. If medical assessments offer reassurance and the club believes his potential justifies the clause, the move could make sense. If his recovery remains uncertain, Leeds should protect their budget rather than commit £17 million before knowing what they will get.
