First-half goals from Gareth McElroy and Ryan O'Kane gave the hosts a comfortable advantage at the break. Kaiyne Woolery was shown a red card soon after the restart and Derry made their numerical advantage count, with 17-year-old Terence Doherty scoring a late double to rescue a point. The Candystripes finished the season in fifth, with 48 points from their 36 games. Their focus will now switch to their FAI Cup final against Waterford at Aviva Stadium on Sunday, 8 November. Captain McElroy opened the scoring on 25 minutes at the Showgrounds, firing home his second goal of the season after Derry failed to clear their lines from a free-kick. O'Kane added a second on 37 minutes with a fine strike before Woolery was dismissed just three minutes into the second half. Youngster Doherty scored on 77 minutes to reduce the deficit and followed that up with his and his team's second with a header five minutes later to equalise.
