Real Madrid star Yan Diomande names club legend he would like to bring back: ‘My idol’ Real Madrid took a massive risk back in the summer with the transfer fee they paid to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig. Los Blancos agreed a €140 million package deal with the German club to bring the Ivorian winger to the Santiago Bernabeu . The 19-year-old is already showing glimpses of his potential, but he is aware that his ceiling could be much higher. It even emerged that the German club had insisted on including a Ballon d’Or clause in his transfer, underlining just how highly everyone rate him. In a recent interview, Diomande was asked which former Real Madrid legend he would bring back to the current squad. Diomande chooses Cristiano Ronaldo without hesitation The youngster immediately chose Cristiano Ronaldo, making no secret of his admiration for the Portuguese superstar. “If I could bring back one Real Madrid legend to play in the team right now? Cristiano Ronaldo, of course, my idol,” Diomande said (h/t Madrid Zone ). Yan Diomande grew up watching Cristiano Ronaldo. Upon securing his Real Madrid move, he explained how he grew up watching the Al Nassr star. “I identified with that because I didn’t like losing either. I’m a bad loser. I used to cry every time I lost,” he admitted. Diomande even revealed that he had grown up buying Ronaldo shirts and sometimes even painting his name onto jerseys himself. Diomande hoping to follow in his idol’s footsteps Ronaldo is arguably the single biggest star to have graced the Bernabeu in the last couple of decades. His legacy at the club remains unmatched. The Portuguese forward scored 450 goals in just 438 appearances. He helped the club win four Champions League titles in nine years. If Diomande grew up watching this glorious period in Real Madrid’s history, just wearing the jersey now is already a remarkable achievement. However, it looks like the teenager has admired Ronaldo not just for his goals but also for the mentality he brought to the table. Yan Diomande has impressed on the left wing for Real Madrid. Diomande has impressed in the past few weeks, starting on the left wing and showing a willingness to take on defenders. More importantly for Mourinho, he has shown equal commitment defensively, tracking back to support Marc Cucurella. If the Ivorian goes on to have half the career that Ronaldo did in Madrid, he will already be a club legend, and it remains to be seen how his time in Spain pans out.
