Star owed to Andoni Iraola: Julian Ward must agree deal or upset Liverpool boss
Star owed to Andoni Iraola: Julian Ward must agree deal or upset Liverpool boss One brilliant star is now owed to Andoni Iraola. Julian Ward must agree a deal or he’ll upset the Liverpool boss. Andoni Iraola has had a good start to life as Liverpool boss. The Reds have only lost once and it came after a red card against Manchester City. So all in all, things look positive under the new head coach. And that's despite Liverpool not actually making things easy for him from the get-go. This squad, after all, is not balanced. There's essentially zero variety in attack - the squad is built to cut in from the left, hit the byline from the right, and operate with a static centre-forward. It's a fine way to play but when it's your only setup, you will naturally run into some problems. Similarly, Iraola has been given exactly what Arne Slot was: a series of attacking midfielders operating in the middle. Actually, he's got it slightly worse than Slot as Curtis Jones was sold without a replacement. Liverpool have no real controlling midfielder, nor a defensive one. And that's why Liverpool absolutely owe it to Iraola to seal one particular deal. He has every right to be upset otherwise. Sort that Alexis Mac Allister contract Alexis Mac Allister has become a vital player for Iraola and he's done it immediately. The Argentine has stepped into that role, with the boss making sure he's the only getting rested against 'weaker' opponents and is playing a key role in every major fixture. And with good reason, too, as Mac Allister has had a brilliant start to the season . This is despite the fact he asked for a new contract in the summer but didn't receive one - while Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai both did. Mac Allister has been vocal about wanting that contract. Liverpool, however, told him they weren't in a position to give him one and put things off. That led to Sky Sports reporting this week that his future likely sits away from Anfield. WinWinSports , though, suggest there's been a change of heart. That's because of Iraola, who views Mac Allister as so important that he wants a new deal signed with the club. He's eager to hold onto him. And that puts Liverpool in a strange spot. They've committed an awful lot of money to their midfield but that plan didn't include Mac Allister. But given they hardly gave Iraola the ideal squad to begin with, they've got to back the boss after his start to the season. And that means signing a deal with Mac Allister ASAP. but it remains to be seen if Liverpool agree on that. For everyone's sake, though, they'll surely give Iraola what he wants.
