Chelsea vs Manchester United player ratings - Lavia, Estevao dazzle as United implode in the second half
LONDON — The Chelsea vs Manchester United player ratings were intriguing to dish out as a wild clash ended in victory for Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea to pile more misery on Michael Carrick and United. United dominated the first half but couldn't break through and Chelsea punished them, and United punished themselves, in the second half. First Morgan Rogers scored after waltzing through the United defense, then Lisandro Martinez inexplicably smashed Wesley Fofana in the face to get a second yellow card and give away a penalty kick which Cole Palmer dispatched. Here are the Chelsea vs Manchester United player ratings, with marks out of 10 and analysis on each player, as United's fragile confidence took another massive blow. Chelsea player ratings Mike Penders : 7 - Off his line well on a few occasions, kept his clean sheet with a fine late save to tip Mbeumo's shot onto the bar. Bounced back really well from his mistake against Spurs. Josh Acehampong : 6.5 - Did okay defensively and made a few key blocks and was brave on the ball. Continues to improve. Wesley Fofana : 5 - Another poor display and heckled by the Chelsea fans as Amad Diallo ran rings around him in the first half. Won the all-important penalty but still nowhere near his best. Levi Colwill : 6 - Struggled to deal with the pace of Mbeumo and Amad at times but hung in there. Marco Palestra : 5 - Given a torrid first half by Diallo but like all of Chelsea's players, improved massively in the second half. Romeo Lavia : 8 - One of his best displays for Chelsea. Won the ball back in a key area for the crucial first goal and made so many timely interceptions. Moises Caicedo : 7 - Made some really good surging runs forward and snapped into tackles and dragged Chelsea back into the game. Estevao : 8 - Scored twice but was just offside on both, which was a shame. But he was exceptional on the ball, went close late on and always looked to be positive on the right. Alonso should be applauded for selecting him. Cole Palmer : 6.5 - Some nice touches and squeezed home a penalty kick. Still not at his very best and didn't get on the ball much overall. Morgan Rogers : 7.5 - A goal of real quality at a key moment. You can't give him that much time to turn and run at your defense. Rogers is a big game player. Pedro Neto : 7 - Played up front centrally and did well out of position. Went close with one effort and never stopped running as his running opened up gaps for Chelsea's other forwards. Subs Pep Chavarria: 6 - Solid at left back and got forward on a few occasions. Danny Welbeck: N/A Valentin Barco: N/A Malo Gusto: N/A Geovany Quenda: N/A Manchester United player ratings Senne Lammens : 6 - Almost saved Palmer's penalty kick, could do little more on Rogers' goal and made a fine save late on to deny Estevao. Leny Yoro : 6 - He's not a right back but hung in there well. Harry Maguire : 5 - Will be disappointed with his defending for Chelsea's opener. Made a couple of good blocks. Lisandro Martinez : 2 - Lost the plot at a crucial moment. Poor defending on Rogers' goal, then booked for a bad foul, then moments later smashed his forearm into Fofana's face to get sent off and give away a penalty kick. He put his own emotions and frustrations before the good of the team. So poor. Diogo Dalot : 5 - Not a left back but did okay there in the first half, especially offering an attacking threat. Didn't do so well in the second half as Estevao took over the game. Andrey Santos : 4 - Another lackluster display and an awful sliding tackle to allow Rogers to walk through on the first goal. His signing continues to be a real head-scratcher. Carlos Baleba : 6 - Solid enough and won the ball back and used it well in the first half. Tired in the second half as he still gets back to full match fitness. Amad Diallo : 7 - Electric in the first half and probably the one United player who can come out of this game with real credit. He has to improve his finishing but did everything else so well. Matheus Cunha : 6 - Poor first touch on a couple of occasions when he had big chances. Scored a disallowed header for just being offside. Faded badly in the second half. Bruno Fernandes : 5 - Missed a big chance early and couldn't connect on an easy cross to Mbeumo. Lacked his usual quality in the final third. Bryan Mbeumo : 6 - Worked hard, as always, but lacked confidence in the final third and his first touch let him down on a few occasions. Unlucky to hit the bar late on. Subs Kobbie Mainoo: 6 - Helped settle things down when United were rocking. Ayden Heaven: 6 - Did okay to try and stop Chelsea's attack slicing United open. Mason Mount: 5 - Didn't see much of the ball. Joshua Zirkzee: 6 - Made things happen, had a few shots.
