Ajax star jokes about Barcelona loanee Ter Stegen’s training performances: ‘Makes you want to punch him’ Having left Barcelona last summer to join AFC Ajax on loan, Marc-Andre ter Stegen appears to be making a solid impression on his new teammates with his performances in training. The veteran German international had fallen down the pecking order at Barça under Hansi Flick, and decided to depart in search of regular playing time. Tolu Arokodare impressed by Ter Stegen In an interview with Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws (h/t SPORT ), Ajax striker Tolu Arokodare has given his insight on Ter Stegen and how he has impressed in his new surroundings. “Ter Stegen drives me crazy during training. Sometimes it’s incredibly frustrating to see him keep saving so many shots. It makes you want to punch him!” Ter Stegen seems to be impressing at Ajax. Since joining Ajax on loan in the summer, Ter Stegen has made 13 appearances across all competitions, keeping three clean sheets while conceding 19 goals. A chance to revive his career The move to Ajax offers Ter Stegen a great opportunity to revive his career after having seen his prominence decline at Barcelona. After all, the German international had fallen behind Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny in the pecking order under Hansi Flick at the Spotify Camp Nou. The 34-year-old shot-stopper had already left Barcelona on loan in January, signing for Girona, but an injury early in his spell at the Catalan club meant he barely played. Ter Stegen remains contacted with Barcelona until 2028. A strong season will boost Ter Stegen’s market value as well as increasing his chances of securing a permanent transfer away from Barcelona at the end of the season, potentially to Ajax or somewhere else. He remains under contract with the Blaugrana until the summer of 2028, who will also be closely watching his performances so that they can part ways with him on a permanent basis in the summer.
