Cardiff injuries mounting as new fitness fears emerge

Cardiff City have battled with injuries all season [Huw Evans Picture Agency] Cardiff City 's injury list remains an issue as the heavy 3-0 defeat at Wolves exposed the Bluebirds' lack of defensive depth. Brian Barry-Murphy has revealed there are now fresh fitness fears over defenders Will Fish and Perry Ng, and midfielder Alex Robertson Cardiff went to Molineux already missing centre backs Dylan Lawlor, Callum Chambers, Krystian Bielik and the suspended Gabriel Osho. And, as they shipped three goals for the first time this season, they ended the game with midfielder Joel Colwill and winger Ollie Tanner as emergency full-backs. "We spoke earlier in the season when four of our centre backs were out injured, and I incorrectly presumed that will never happen again - but it has," said Barry-Murphy. "I can't express how grateful I am because I asked Ollie Tanner to play left back and he gave it everything; same for Joel at right back. "Perry went to play centre back, but he's been struggling. They're giving it everything, so that's why I can't be too critical." Wolves up to third as Cardiff away woes continue Injured Lawlor to miss Wales' final Nations League games Barry-Murphy has been without Chambers, who does not have a disclosed return date, all season, while Wales international Lawlor has managed three games. The former Manchester City academy coach did say the side weren't at their best at key times as they conceded twice early on at Molineux. The 48-year-old felt all three of Wolves' goals were "disappointing and very soft" and called on his side to learn from the lesson ahead of hosting West Ham on Wednesday. Barry-Murphy admitted he "didn't know" if the experienced Bielik will be fit to face the Hammers, despite returning to training after the groin injury that ruled him out of last week's Birmingham City win during the warm-up. To make matters worse, he added: "Will Fish has a sore hamstring. "It was sore at half-time, but we had so little cover we left him on the pitch because we wanted to get back in the game. "But the longer it goes on with a hamstring, the greater the risk – like with Dylan Lawlor - so we had to get him off." Fish has only made four outings since returning from a hernia which required surgery, and Barry-Murphy confirmed Robertson now has an Achilles issue. "It's a slight concern for us going forward but hopefully by taking him off when we did he can be git for Wednesday," he said. Fish and Robertson were substituted with 18 minutes left of Cardiff 's first defeat in four games, although there was better news as Wales midfielder Rubin Colwill came off the bench in the second half for his first appearance in almost two months.
