How Bruno Fernandes fared in Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea?
How Bruno Fernandes fared in Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea? Manchester United continued their miserable run of form as they lost 2-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The result has thrown fresh doubt over Michael Carrick’s future as United head coach. The Red Devils were the better team in the first half, as they created several goalscoring opportunities. But the visitors failed to convert their chances and lost complete control after half-time. Morgan Rogers scored a stunning goal in the 50th minute. Then, Cole Palmer added another from the penalty spot after Lisandro Martinez lost his head to pick up two yellow cards in the space of four minutes. Bryan Mbeumo threatened to pull one back late on, but Chelsea held on to secure a comfortable victory. Bruno Fernandes fails to inspire his team Bruno Fernandes made headlines after he criticised Carrick’s tactics following United’s Champions League loss at Como last month. His comments did not go down well with many supporters and he was dropped for the home fixture against Bournemouth. Carrick brought Fernandes back in the team for Saturday’s away encounter but the Portuguese failed to deliver an inspiring display. The experienced midfielder squandered a brilliant scoring opportunity by blazing over the bar in the first half. He was also at fault for giving the ball away in the build-up to Chelsea’s third goal that was eventually ruled out for offside. Fernandes had 82 touches in the game and completed 42 of his 62 passes. He made three passes and created one big chance, but failed to register any shot on target. Fernandes lost possession of the ball 31 times and won five of his 11 ground duels. He won three tackles and made five ball recoveries. Fernandes has been far from his best this campaign. He has failed to make a goal contribution since scoring a sensational hat-trick against Ipswich Town in September.
