‘It was not a good performance’ – Manchester United boss Olid on Everton draw
‘It was not a good performance’ – Manchester United boss Olid on Everton draw Manchester United head coach Eva Olid was unimpressed with her side’s performance as they drew 0-0 with Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon. Both sides had sight of the opposition goal throughout the 90 minutes, but neither could make the breakthrough on Merseyside. Speaking to the media after the game, Manchester United boss Olid admitted that her side were far from at their best. “Yeah, I think it was not a good performance,” Olid said. “I think we are not always going to perform amazing or good, but it’s always about finding a way to win. Today, we didn’t find the way to win the game. We need to analyse together and find what didn’t work because we need to be better. “We’ve come from really good performances and today was not a good performance. I think that out of possession, we were late, we lost individual duels and in possession, we probably missed that creativity or the connections that we have had in recent matches.” Manchester United have a tough run of fixtures coming up and Olid said that her side need to learn from their setbacks. She said “I think that after such a positive performance [against Manchester City] last Sunday, there is always that question. Okay, are we going to keep that as the standard or are we going to go? I expected that we would be better than we were, but we can say it’s a point away in a difficult stadium. “We have to be more demanding because we are ambitious and we want to win matches. If these [performances] have to happen for us, it’s about learning, improving and being better in the next matches. Now, it’s just a little disappointing, but it’s normal.” Commenting on opponents Everton, Olid offered praise to The Toffees for matching her side. She said “I think that Everton grew today. I have watched them in recent games and they were not playing as well as they did against us. I don’t know if it was because they were playing against us or that they were playing here that they looked a different team with the intensity of their play. I have not seen that in the previous matches. “Credit to them for how they played today. I know that they didn’t create a lot of opportunities, but in terms of play, winning second balls and intensity, they were really good, defending also, so credit to them. “It’s more about us. We had to be better today, we continue working hard.” Manchester United’s next Barclays Women’s Super League fixture comes against Aston Villa at Villa Park next Sunday.
