Manchester United Are In The Running To Land This Fulham Defender: Good Choice For Carrick? In a recent report , journalist Graeme Bailey stated that Manchester United are in the running to land Fulham defender Calvin Bassey. It is understood that the Red Devils would have to compete with Newcastle United, Everton, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Leipzig in the race to sign the Nigerian centre-back next year. Bassey’s Impressive Form In English Football The 26-year-old has made a solid start to this Premier League campaign as he has put in a run of impressive displays for Fulham on the defensive end of the field. Bassey has made 11 appearances for the Cottagers this season on all fronts. The Nigerian talent is currently among the most talented centre-backs in the Premier League . Hence, it is no surprise that the Red Devils are in the mix to sign him next year. His current contract at Craven Cottage will run out at the end of this campaign, which could open the door for Man United to sign him on a cut-price deal this January or on a free transfer next summer. (Photo by Tom Dulat/Getty Images) Will Bassey Be A Good Choice For Manchester United Boss Michael Carrick? Bassey is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can use his robust 1.85m to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his side. The English sensation is primarily a central defender but can also serve as a left-back if asked to do so. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take any time to settle into life at Old Trafford if the Red Devils manage to bring him on board in 2027. We can expect Bassey to add more bite and steel to Man United head coach Michael Carrick’s defence. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Theatre of Dreams in the coming years. At 26, Bassey has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for the Mancunian club to pursue this January or at the end of this season. He will also help Man United compete across all competitions over the next few years.
