Nigerian winger Babatunde Akinsola gives Cercle Brugge first win of the Belgian Pro League season
Nigerian winger Babatunde Akinsola gives Cercle Brugge first win of the Belgian Pro League season Cercle Brugge are finally off the mark in the Belgian Pro League. The side were the only team without a win remaining after nine games had been played this season, but that came to an end at home to Antwerp . After a goalless first half, Nigerian winger Babatunde Akinsola announced himself to the Cercle Brugge faithful with two well taken goals, his first for the club since joining in the summer. Akinsola left the Portuguese second tier to join Cercle Brugge an signed a contract until 2030. The 23-year-old will now be looking to kick on and provide a real attacking threat for the side from out wide, and his two goals suggest that he should be able to add a few more come the end of the season. Cercle Brugge were also indebted to some fine goalkeeping from another summer signing. Former KV Mechelen goalkeeper Gaëtan Coucke made a string of important saves, although he could do nothing to stop Antwerp’s Modibo Fofana from cutting the deficit to one with under 10 minutes to go. Cercle Brugge held on to relieve some pressure on Lars Friis and move off the bottom of the table. The side had been playing some good football but were struggling to take their chances and defend at the other end. This win will boost confidence going into their next game against RAAL la Louviere, the side just above them in the table. GBeNeFN | Ben Jackson
