Liverpool hold talks with Barcelona over January transfer for Ronald Araujo

Liverpool hold talks with Barcelona over January transfer for Ronald Araujo Liverpool and Barcelona are exploring the possibility of turning Ronald Araujo’s loan move into a permanent transfer as early as January, potentially bringing forward an agreement originally scheduled for next summer.  In fact, according to TEAMtalk , initial discussions between the clubs have taken place over an accelerated deal. The Uruguayan defender joined Liverpool on a season-long loan in August 2026, with an option to buy worth €55 million.  Barcelona are now interested in securing the transfer income earlier as they look to strengthen Hansi Flick’s defence during the winter window. A permanent departure for Araujo would give sporting director Deco additional financial flexibility in January rather than forcing Barcelona to wait until the end of the campaign for Liverpool’s purchase decision. The original agreement provides a clear starting point for negotiations, although bringing the transfer forward by several months means the clubs will have to negotiate whether to retain the €55 million valuation or settle on a different figure. Liverpool seek favourable terms despite Araujo’s impact It is known that Liverpool are extremely satisfied with Araujo’s contribution since his arrival, having made 13 appearances. The Premier League club is open to keeping him permanently but is understood to be seeking a reduction on the existing purchase option.  Araujo is very happy at Liverpool. Liverpool feel that completing the purchase in January, rather than waiting until the summer, should provide room to renegotiate the financial terms. Araujo open to extending his Liverpool stay As such, the Uruguayan defender’s perspective would be extremely crucial at this stage.  Reports have it that Araujo is comfortable at Liverpool and would not oppose making the move permanent, giving both clubs an incentive to find common ground. Despite all this, however, Barcelona will want to maximise the income from a player who remains under contract, and at the same time, Liverpool will seek to avoid paying the full purchase-option fee if they can secure more favourable terms.
