Laporta joins forces with Barcelona mayor in bid to bring 2030 World Cup final to Camp Nou

Laporta joins forces with Barcelona mayor in bid to bring 2030 World Cup final to Camp Nou Barcelona have ambitious plans for their fully renovated Spotify Camp Nou, with hosting the 2030 World Cup final high on their list of priorities. The Catalan club have already pushed for and secured permission to host the 2029 Champions League final. The ambition to host the World Cup final has now received fresh backing from the city’s political leadership and the Spanish football federation. According to SPORT , Barcelona president Joan Laporta, city mayor Jaume Collboni and Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzan have joined forces in pursuit of that common dream. Laporta optimistic about Camp Nou’s World Cup final ambitions Laporta, never one to mince his words, has repeatedly expressed his desire to see Barcelona’s stadium host the 2030 World Cup final. Despite facing strong competition from the Santiago Bernabeu , the Barça president has been quietly confident. “We are optimistic and hope that it happens,” the Barcelona president declared during an event featuring the World Cup trophy at city hall. And for Spain’s captain to lift the trophy here again,” the mayor explained. “It is the best stadium and will be the best ground in Europe. We want it to host the World Cup final, and we are working to achieve that dream.” Barcelona face competition from Madrid and Morocco The Spanish federation also welcomed Barcelona’s ambitions, but Louzan stopped short of giving his full backing to the Camp Nou. This is understandable given his position as federation president and the fact that the Santiago Bernabeu is also a realistic option for the event. “Hopefully it happens. There are possibilities,” he acknowledged, while stressing that Spain should host the final. The Camp Nou is shaping up to become one of the best stadiums in Europe. The African country plans to put forward Grand Stade Hassan II as its preferred venue for the final. The 2030 World Cup is set to be co-hosted by Portugal, Spain and Morocco. However, there appears to be no real pressure from the Portuguese side. Interestingly, Morocco became a co-host of the tournament only because Ukraine could not, due to the prevailing geopolitical conditions. Spain were the original hosts alongside Morocco and are right to demand that the final be hosted there. The Camp Nou will be the biggest and most prestigious stadium in the country once renovations are complete, and it remains to be seen whether Laporta sees his dream realised.
