Michael Carrick looks back on Manchester United’s 7-1 win over Roma in 2007

Michael Carrick looks back on Manchester United’s 7-1 win over Roma in 2007 Serie A side Roma take on Manchester United at Old Trafford tomorrow in what will be a huge game for either side.  Michael Carrick’s side come into the tie with just two wins in all competitions. One came against Ipswich Town and the other came against Sabah in the Champions League during their first game of the campaign. Roma are at the other end of the spectrum and find themselves in a title race, having thrashed Udinese 5-2 at the weekend. Carrick spoke to the press about the tie today and he looked back on Manchester United’s historic 7-1 win in 2007. The ex-midfielder had scored a rare brace on the night. Describing it as a special night, he said – via Gazzetta : “It was one of those magical nights, I have to say.” “One of the greatest evenings, one of the best games, and one of the most incredible atmospheres I’ve ever had the fortune of experiencing. Scoring a brace, which is truly unusual for me, makes that memory even more special. But beyond the goals, what I remember most is the emotion of that evening. I have to say it was truly a special night.” Carrick also made it clear this isn’t his last game as Manchester United manager and he remains optimistic, despite the differing run of forms. “You might think I’m crazy, considering the results we’ve achieved and everything that’s going on, but I assure you, I’m really looking forward to facing Roma. Whatever happens, will happen later, one way or another. But first and foremost, we want to make tomorrow night a great night, and I don’t think it will be my last time on the bench here.”  Roma currently favourites One of Manchester United’s biggest worries this season have been physical ones. They often fail to put in the yards and fade off from a physical standpoint when games approach the second half. Roma, on the other hand, can blow teams away with their work ethic. Gasperini’s teams have a strong physical foundation and this will cause problems to the Red Devils. Kaustubh Pandey – GIFN
