"I'm Really Enjoying It" - Elliot Anderson Reflects on Start to Manchester City Career After £116 Million Move Elliot Anderson has seamlessly integrated into the Manchester City first-team ranks. More Videos Anderson, 23, joined Manchester City from Nottingham Forest in July, in a deal that briefly broke the British transfer record and was finalised on a five-year contract with the option of a further 12 months. The England international came through the youth ranks at Newcastle United, where he made 55 appearances for the first team, before joining Nottingham Forest in July 2024 and playing 92 times for the club across two seasons at the City Ground. Anderson earned his senior England debut in September 2025 under head coach Thomas Tuchel and travelled with the national side to the FIFA World Cup over the summer, where England finished third in the tournament. The 23-year-old has been one of Enzo Maresca's most regular midfielders since arriving at the Etihad Stadium, with the manager taking charge of Manchester City in June as the successor to Pep Guardiola. I'd never really stayed in the city previously, I'm obviously loving it: Anderson on start to life at Man City Speaking to Manchester City's official club media, Anderson was asked about his start to life at the Etihad Stadium and said: "It's gone well so far, I think. Obviously, performances help you settle in. "That plus training where the lads have been brilliant with me. There's been a lot of change over the summer for the club, so everyone's kind of in the same boat. "I'd never really stayed in the city [Manchester] previously, and I'm obviously loving it. I'm really enjoying it." Anderson's role in Maresca's midfield and the summer rebuild Anderson scored his first Manchester City goal in the 12th minute of the 5-1 Champions League win over AEK Athens at the Etihad Stadium on 20 October, finishing from a rebound after Enzo Fernandez's free-kick had struck the crossbar. The 23-year-old has formed a central midfield partnership with Fernandez in Maresca's biggest games, with the pair having started together in the recent defeats to Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa, as well as Saturday's 1-0 Premier League loss to Brighton and Hove Albion. Anderson's loose touch did not feature in the recent run of individual errors that cost Manchester City three defeats in six games, with Maresca addressing the mistakes at his press conference after the Brighton defeat and calling on his players to analyse what they can improve. The England international was among five players given three days off following the trip to Villa Park, missing the Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Brighton that Manchester City won on penalties, before returning to the starting line-up on Saturday. Anderson arrived at the Etihad Stadium alongside Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille for £86 million, Fernandez from Chelsea for a reported £125 million, and winger Iliman Ndiaye from Everton, as director of football Hugo Viana oversaw a comprehensive remake of the first-team midfield. The summer also brought Jeremy Monga, Allan Elias and Geronimo Rulli to Manchester City, whilst Rodri left for Barcelona and Bernardo Silva joined Real Madrid on a free transfer. The arrivals have come against the backdrop of an independent commission's guilty verdict on 114 of 115 charges relating to breaches of the Premier League's financial rules, with Manchester City declaring their innocence and lodging a comprehensive appeal at 7pm on 1 October. Anderson had admired Kevin De Bruyne growing up, with the Belgium international having been one of the dominant midfielders at the Etihad Stadium throughout the Guardiola era before leaving in the summer of 2025, and the midfielder said upon arrival that he had joined one of the biggest clubs in the world. The 23-year-old could soon add to his England caps during the November international break, with Thomas Tuchel's side having fixtures against Serbia and Albania scheduled for the latter part of the month. Manchester City travel to Germany to face RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday 4 November, before visiting Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in the Premier League on Saturday 7 November ahead of the international break.
