Nottingham Forest make their feelings clear on the future Oliver Glasner
Nottingham Forest make their feelings clear on the future Oliver Glasner Oliver Glasner Lays Down Terms for Nottingham Forest Rebuild Nottingham Forest’s season already feels like a judgement on culture, standards and whether the club can finally stop lurching from one fix to the next. Oliver Glasner has made his position plain, and there is no soft language around it. As reported by Telegraph, the Forest head coach sees the problems clearly and has decided the solution starts with a full reset. His words matter because they cut through the usual managerial noise. “I feel I could see a few things from day number one. I feel now maybe I made too many compromises in some stuff, and it’s always compromises.” That is an admission and a warning in one go. He has looked at the environment, judged that standards slipped, and concluded that giving ground helped nobody. Glasner then sharpened the message further. “It’s a clear way. I will tell [the players] what we want to do, what we have to do, and if the players buy in, I think we can have a turnaround and, if not, the sixth manager [since the start of last season] will come in.” There is no dressing that up. He is telling the squad that compliance is non-negotiable and telling the club that another failed cycle solves nothing. The most striking part is the insistence on a root-and-branch rebuild. “You need to change and rebuild from the bottom to the top. And this is clear for me. And this is what I will do. And without any compromises. Zero. Zero. And if these things don’t work, they will let me know.” Photo IMAGO Expected Points Offer Nottingham Forest Hope The results are poor, that much is obvious. Forest have only one win under Glasner. Yet the underlying numbers offer a more useful guide than panic. Forest are third in the table on expected points, second for expected goals against and fifth for expected goals for, according to Opta. That suggests organisation is not broken, chance creation is respectable and the table may be lagging behind the performance level. It also frames Glasner’s anger more clearly. This does not sound like a coach baffled by a hopeless team. It sounds like a coach who believes the structure is there, but habits, discipline and collective buy-in are undermining it. Managerial Turnover Still Haunts City Ground Forest appointed Glasner in July as the fifth managerial hire in a year, after Vítor Pereira, Sean Dyche, Ange Postecoglou and Nuno Espírito Santo. That kind of churn creates confusion, weakens accountability and makes every reset harder than the last. If Forest want progress, the cycle has to end somewhere. Glasner has drawn his line. The message is stark, the data gives him some support, and the next move belongs to the players. Our View This is exactly the sort of language that has been missing. Enough of drift, enough of compromise, enough of pretending that another quick fix will tidy everything up. If Glasner believes the standards are wrong, then he has every right to attack the problem head on. “Zero. Zero.” might sound brutal, but Forest have been stuck in a loop where everybody bends and nothing improves. The encouraging part is not just the tone, it is the numbers. Third on expected points, second for expected goals against and fifth for expected goals for says there is something to work with. That is not the profile of a side getting steamrolled every week. It is the profile of a team that should be doing more with what it has. That is why his comments land. He is not asking for miracles, he is asking for basic commitment to a plan. There is also a challenge here for the club above the dressing room. “You need to change and rebuild from the bottom to the top” applies to everyone. Recruitment, leadership, patience, all of it. Forest cannot keep chewing through managers and acting surprised when the same structural issues remain. If the squad responds, there is enough in the data to believe a turnaround can happen. If they do not, then this season goes the same way as too many others, full of noise and short on substance. The hope is that this time somebody finally means it, and this time the club backs him long enough to prove it. Source: Telegraph
