Watch: Real Madrid penalty against Racing sparks furious touchline reaction from Mourinho Kylian Mbappe’s penalty during Real Madrid’s 3-0 victory over Racing Santander sparked heated exchanges between both benches, with the home side questioning the referee’s decision and Jose Mourinho expressing frustration at the continued protests.  As such, broadcast cameras captured several tense moments, including the Racing manager’s complaint to the fourth official and the Portuguese coach’s reaction as the arguments continued. The incident occurred when Mbappe went down following contact inside the penalty area, prompting referee Munuera Montero to award Real Madrid a spot-kick.  Racing’s players and supporters disagreed with the decision, arguing that the contact was insufficient to justify a penalty. However, the referee maintained that the French forward had been obstructed. Racing manager challenges Mbappe penalty decision The decision immediately generated controversy, with Racing’s manager making his disagreement clear while speaking to the fourth official.  He believed Mbappe had exaggerated the contact rather than being genuinely impeded by the defender. “There’s contact, but in football there’s contact; there’s nothing to it, it’s just contact. He touches him with his hand, and he walks away; he feels the hand and dives.” Munuera Montero offered a different interpretation, explaining that the defender’s actions prevented Mbappe from continuing his movement. “He stops and obstructs.” The disagreement continued after the interval, with Racing’s players still approaching the referee to question the decision.  Mourinho loses patience as Racing continue their protests Mourinho, who was watching the proceedings from the touchline, eventually became frustrated with the repeated complaints directed towards the officials. “They’re still talking to the bloody referee; it’s unbelievable. He’s talking to the fourth official. I’ve never seen pressure like this; I’ve never seen anything like it.” The referee was subsequently required to explain his decision to the Racing manager again after the final whistle, demonstrating that the disagreement had not disappeared during the match. “He’s not looking at the ball. He stops and clearly blocks it. And I say: if that’s not a clear penalty, let me know. “But he turns his back on the ball and blocks it. Can’t you agree with me and see that on the pitch it’s a penalty?” Another incident featuring Tchouameni Mbappe’s penalty was not the only incident to generate discussion during the encounter.  Real Madrid also had a penalty decision overturned following a VAR review of a potential handball involving Aurelien Tchouameni inside their own penalty area. The referee ultimately decided against awarding the spot-kick, judging the handball to be unintentional under the applicable interpretation of the incident. The decision prompted another exchange, with Marc Cucurella visibly unhappy with the assistant referee’s involvement. “Smile, go on, smile.”
