Catalan media explodes calling Real Madrid ‘VAR-favoured’: ‘They would continue to steal’
Catalan media explodes calling Real Madrid ‘VAR-favoured’: ‘They would continue to steal’ Real Madrid’s win over Racing Club at the weekend was one of the team’s most dominant performances of the season so far as they put three goals past the hosts and ended their unbeaten streak at home. Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring on the night, while Jude Bellingham and Yan Diomande also scored and put the game to bed before half-time. Despite Los Blancos’ dominance and deserved result, however, a lot has been said and discussed about the penalty that was awarded for Mbappe’s goal with many labelling it a dive. Catalan media spewing poison As relayed in a recent report by MARCA , the media in Catalonia is going berserk with how VAR’s decisions went heavily in Real Madrid’s favour in their recent game. Referring primarily to the penalty awarded to Kylian Mbappe, which they claim was a dive and a yellow-card worthy, the media in Catalonia put a massive accusation on Real Madrid which the club may even consider taking action against. In the VAR ranking, Real Madrid is very prominent,” they added. Going a step further, they even went on to personally attack Jose Mourinho and label him ‘fake.’ “I hope I don’t have to come to Mourinho’s ‘Tu Dirás’. What is he, a fake? We have already removed the mask,” a journalist said. Needless to say, the accusations being thrown are very strong ones and are simply unacceptable coming from a major media outlet. The club could well be working on defamation-related action as matters stand. Far from the truth Catalan media claim Real Madrid are favoured by officials. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images) While it may be true that Real Madrid were lucky with the penalty Mbappe won and converted at the weekend against Racing Club, the fact of the matter remains that they would have won the game regardless given how dominant they were. On the contrary, Real Madrid have in fact been one of the worst-hit teams by VAR’s decisions. As revealed recently, Los Blancos were the worst affected of all teams in La Liga last season by the decisions of the referees behind the screens They had the highest number of reviews against them and also lost the most points as a direct result of the said decisions. There were a total of 11 instances where VAR went against Real Madrid over the previous season, and the club lost a staggering five points as a direct result of the same. To call the club to be favoured by VAR, in that sense, is simply absurd.
