Stats show Barcelona duo Raphinha and Lamine Yamal have become Europe’s most dangerous attacking partnership

Stats show Barcelona duo Raphinha and Lamine Yamal have become Europe’s most dangerous attacking partnership Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa offered another reminder of the extraordinary attacking quality available to Hansi Flick, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal once again proving decisive.  The Brazilian scored twice, while the teenage winger added another goal to his tally as the Catalans produced a convincing response to their consecutive defeats against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. However, the significance of their performances was certainly not limited to the match result, as Raphinha and Yamal have developed into one of European football’s most productive attacking partnerships, having combined goals, assists and individual creativity at a remarkable rate.  As such, their influence is reflected in the statistics, as together, they have scored a whopping 32 goals across La Liga and the Champions League and provided 14 assists, with Raphinha contributing three and Yamal registering 11. Their combined output has made them central to Barcelona’s attacking identity, with few partnerships across Europe matching their overall contribution. Raphinha and Yamal account for 70% of Barcelona’s goals The most remarkable aspect of Barcelona’s attacking production is just how heavily it depends on the Brazilian and the Spanish international.  Between them, Raphinha and Yamal have been involved in 42 of Barcelona’s 60 goals, accounting for an extraordinary 70% of the team’s total output. Furthermore, there is also a considerable difference in how they contribute.  To begin with, Yamal has repeatedly shown his ability to create opportunities for his teammates, including setting up Raphinha against Feyenoord and providing two assists for the Brazilian during the victory over Sevilla.  Raphinha and Lamine Yamal are the best attacking duo in Europe. This relationship makes Barcelona particularly difficult to defend against, as opponents cannot concentrate exclusively on stopping one player because both possess the ability to decide matches through individual brilliance or worse, combinations with their teammates. As far as Raphinha is concerned, he scored 12 goals in his first seven La Liga matchdays, breaking Lionel Messi’s previous Barcelona record of 11 goals during the opening seven matchdays of the 2017-18 campaign.  His overall return has subsequently reached 19 goals in 13 appearances across competitions. Yamal, meanwhile, has combined his domestic contributions with another historic European achievement, becoming one of the most influential young attackers in the game. Barcelona’s attacking duo compare favourably with Europe’s elite The numbers become even more impressive when compared with other prominent attacking partnerships across Europe. To put it in perspective, Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise and Harry Kane have also enjoyed an exceptional campaign.  The pair have combined for 22 goals and 16 assists, giving them 38 direct goal contributions.  Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe and Diomandé have registered 19 goals and seven assists between them at Real Madrid till the date of writing. Yamal is now a UCL record holder While Raphinha’s goalscoring form has been particularly impressive domestically, Yamal has continued to establish himself among Europe’s most productive players in the Champions League. His goal against Aston Villa took his competition tally to 14, making him the highest-scoring teenager in Champions League history .  As reported before, he moved past Kylian Mbappe, who previously held the record with 13 goals before turning 20. It can be argued that between Raphinha and Lamine, one can survive without the other, and while there is nothing to disregard, it does, in fact, show that both bring their own quality, which is equally threatening. That combination gives Barcelona multiple ways to hurt opponents, whether through quick transitions, individual actions, or sustained attacking pressure. Simply put, Raphinha and Lamine are operating at a level no other attacking duo in Europe is matching, and it is only exciting to think what they have in store for the matches ahead.
