‘They can punish you in every single moment’ – West Ham United boss Guarino on Manchester City test

‘They can punish you in every single moment’ – West Ham United boss Guarino on Manchester City test West Ham United head coach Rita Guarino says that her side must be aware of Manchester City’s individual qualities when the two sides meet this weekend. The Hammers travel to The Joie Stadium to take on The Cityzens on Saturday afternoon. West Ham United were 4-1 winners against Liverpool last time out and head coach Guarino says that spirits are high in her squad. “The mood is high because we know that we played a very good game,” Guarino said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “It was a very good performance, not just the result. “As usual, we are very focused and concentrating on the next game. We are happy, but the game against Liverpool is in the past. We just need to be focused on what we can improve in the next game.” Latest opponents Manchester City are yet to taste defeat in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season and Guarino says that her side must be wary of The Cityzens’ individual threats as well as the danger posed as a collective. She said “For sure, they have the quality to dominate the game. You can’t have any distraction from the individual quality that they have. They are not just good as a team, they have a high standard of individual quality. They can punish you in every single moment. “It is very important to concentrate and focus on the game and the task. We are preparing for that because we know they are strong.” Manchester City were 4-1 winners at West Ham United on the final day of last season. Guarino wants her side to improve from that performance, particularly out of possession. She said “I think we can improve the performance that we had at home; keep the chances that we have been creating and not concede too many spaces to them, this is very important. “We want to try to do our best to have a different game.” West Ham United’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester City kicks-off at 12.45pm on Saturday afternoon.
