PLAYER RATINGS | Lens 1-9 Como: Complete and utter humiliation for Lens

PLAYER RATINGS | Lens 1-9 Como: Complete and utter humiliation for Lens UEFA Champions League, Matchday 4, 04/11/2026 For a couple of minutes at the start of the game, there was a sense that this could be an interesting contest. It would certainly be interesting, but there would be no semblance of competition as RC Lens were humiliated by Como 1907 in a 9-1 defeat. The Match Como arrived with a big reputation for beautiful, fluid football under head coach Cesc Fàbregas. Lens knew that they would likely have little of the ball and needed to fly out of the traps if they were to get anything from this game. In the opening minutes, they showed some threat, with Florian Thauvin registering an early chance. However, Como soon settled into the occasion, and following that, it was one-way traffic.  It took only seven minutes for Como to find the back of the net courtesy of Greek international Anastasios Douvikas. Luis Milla’s cross was met with a leaping header from Máximo Perrone. He could only direct the ball goalwards, but it dropped in front of Douvikas to tap home the effort.  Douvikas would follow it up with a second in the 32nd minute from a remarkable moment. Nico Paz’s lobbed ball towards Álex Valle looked as if it was going to drop out of play for a goal kick. The Lens team looked certain that the ball was going to cross the line, but Valle swept it across goal for Douvikas. Paz would make it three in the 40th minute when he lifted his shot over Robin Risser.  Lens had two penalty shouts in the first half for handballs. One came close to being awarded with the referee pointing to the spot, but after looking at the pitchside monitor, he overturned his on-field decision. That felt like the best Lens could dream of in a bruising first half.  The misery would only deepen after the break when Paz slipped Lucas Da Cunha into the box. It looked all too simple for the Italians as they rattled the back of the net to make it four, just two minutes into the second half. It would just get worse for the hosts. Marc-Oliver Kempf would head Como’s fifth past Risser in the 53rd minute, before Douvikas registered his hat-trick in the 57th.  Olé’s began to ring out from the home crowd with every pass from their visitors. However, the humiliation would deepen a little more when the substitute Mattia Liberali streamed through the Lens defence to fire home. A knife would face more resistance from butter… at the very least, the butter would leave some sort of mark on the knife, some proof that it had at least existed.  Lens would get a consolation courtesy of Ruben Aguilar. It was a delightfully struck shot, the best goal you’ll ever seen from a team seven goals down. Como would then make it eight via Martin Baturina in the 69th minute. Como would keep pushing for their ninth. It would take until injury time for them to find that with Matteo Papaccioli taking the honours.
