Manchester City 3 RB Leipzig 2: City’s standout performers and biggest disappointments from their win tonight

Manchester City 3 RB Leipzig 2: City’s standout performers and biggest disappointments from their win tonight Manchester City 3 (Castello Lukeba OG 37′, Enzo Fernandez 58′, Erling Haaland 78′) RB Leipzig 2 (Ridle Baku 49′, Antonio Nusa 61′) Here are the City player ratings as the City side held off a plucky RB Leipzig side to leave the Red Bull Arena with a 3-2 victory. Enzo Maresca’s side led 1-0 at halftime and the first half was a tepid affair. However, the game became a pulsating affair after the interval as RB Leipzig pushed City all the way. An error from Gianluigi Donnarumma gifted Ridle Baku an equalizer in the 49th minute. Donnarumma left too big a gap at his near post which Baku expertly exploited. Baku’s goal left the game delicately poised at 1-1. Enzo Fernandez would head home an Iliman Ndiaye cross nine minutes later to restore City’s lead. However that lead would only last three minutes before the lively Antoinio Nusa equalised once again for Martin Demichelis’ side. A surging run from Elliot Anderson would set up Erling Haaland’s winner in the 78th minute to wrap up a vital three points for Manchester City. Enzo Maresca made four changes to the starting lineup from their 1-0 defeat to Brighton. Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki started to give City a stronger look in attack. Nico O’Reilly and Marc Guehi returned to Manchester City’s defence. The changes worked to a degree. However, as good as RB Leipzig were after halftime, at times Manchester City were far too open. This is becoming the new norm for City as is errors gifting their opponents goals. Here are the City player ratings from tonight’s match where Enzo Maresca’s side did the job they had to do in Germany. However, they were made to fight for all three points in an entertaining match at the Red Bull Arena. City player ratings. Gianluigi Donnarumma-4/10:  Yes, Donnarumma made several important saves. There is no denying that. However, his error that led to RB Leipzig’s first equalizer is unforgivable and becoming a constant theme of his play. Matheus Nunes-6/10:  Nunes was good in possession but was given a torrid time by Antoinio Nusa at times. Abdukodir Khusanov- 7/10:  A decent performance from Khusanov who must stay at centre-back in this team. Marc Guehi-6.5/10:  Much better from Guehi but he does have huge scope for improvement. Nico O’Reilly-7/10:  A good display at left-back from O’Reilly. I thought that was his best display of the season so far. Elliot Anderson-8.5/10: A brilliant midfield display from Anderson once again. He covered the pitch superbly, was good in possession and his assist for Haaland’s goal was Kevin De Bruyne-esque. Enzo Fernandez-7.5/10:  Much better from Enzo Fernandez. He took up great attacking positions and took his header well. That midfield role is what suits Enzo Fernandez which showed tonight. Iliman Ndiaye-7/10: Ndiaye is a constant threat when in possession and he once again provided a quality cross for Enzo Fernandez’s goal. Rayan Cherki-7/10:  I liked Cherki’s game however his end product wasn’t quite there. Phil Foden-5.5/10: Foden had some nice touches at times but he was on the periphery of proceedings, especially in the second half before being replaced by Jeremy Doku. Erling Haaland-7.5/10:  Haaland scored Manchester City’s winner and was always in the game. Substitutes. Jeremy Doku-7/10:  A constant threat on the left wing after coming on. Ruben Dias-6/10:  Brought stability to the back in the game’s closing stages. Ayyoub Bouaddi-N/A: Not on long to mark. Mateo Kovacic-N/A:  Not on long enough to mark. Allan-N/A: Not on long enough to mark.
