Nottingham Forest forward moves closer to exit after latest update Nottingham Forest Transfer News: Eintracht Frankfurt Revive Arnaud Kalimuendo Interest Ahead of January Eintracht Frankfurt are revisiting their pursuit of Arnaud Kalimuendo, with the Nottingham Forest forward back on the Bundesliga club’s shortlist ahead of the January transfer window. According to TEAMtalk , Frankfurt are preparing a fresh move after failing to land the 24-year-old on a permanent basis in the summer. Kalimuendo is a known quantity at Deutsche Bank Park. He spent the second half of last season there on loan, returning six goals in 19 Bundesliga appearances and becoming a trusted option in the forward line. Frankfurt liked what they saw, but finances blocked a full deal. They had an option to buy for €27million (£22.4m), yet “declined to activate it, citing the fee as too high for their budget.” Arnaud Kalimuendo Back on Frankfurt Radar Discussions did not end there. Further efforts in the summer also fell short, with Forest “demanding a figure in excess of €30m (£25m) and preferring a full transfer over another temporary deal.” That stance made a breakthrough difficult, but circumstances have shifted since Kalimuendo returned to the City Ground. Photo: IMAGO The striker has found opportunities hard to come by this season. He has largely been used from the bench and is “yet to score a goal in the Premier League.” That change in status has kept Bundesliga interest alive, with “sources in Germany describing the chances of a January move as possible.” January Transfer Window Could Offer Forest a Decision Frankfurt’s current thinking appears flexible. The report states that “Club sources in Frankfurt indicate they are open to another loan, this time potentially structured with an option or obligation to buy, rather than meeting Forest’s previous permanent asking price.” That detail matters, because Forest were previously resistant to another straight loan unless the terms worked strongly in their favour. Kalimuendo’s contract runs until 2030, so Forest remain protected on paper. Even so, his reduced involvement has inevitably affected the conversation around value. TEAMtalk reports that “his market value has dropped due to the reduced game time,” which may leave Forest balancing short-term squad depth against the chance to generate funds for business of their own. Nottingham Forest Weigh Kalimuendo Future There is no agreement in place at this stage, and the situation remains open. Kalimuendo “continues to currently train and feature in the Forest squad,” while Frankfurt are described as the most active club in the race. The central question for Forest is straightforward, whether to retain a forward who has not yet made his mark in the Premier League, or to explore a deal with a club that already knows how to use him. With January moving closer, this one looks live. Frankfurt want a familiar face, Forest want the right terms, and Kalimuendo’s limited role means the conversation is unlikely to go away. Our View It feels like one of those situations where everybody can see the shape of the deal, but nobody quite knows whether the numbers will line up. Kalimuendo has never really got going for us, and when a player is mainly getting minutes off the bench, talk like this is always going to build. There is no panic about it. If Frankfurt still value him after seeing him up close, that says plenty. Six goals in 19 Bundesliga games is a decent return, and some players just suit a different league or a different tactical setup better. Forest have every right to protect their position too, especially with a contract running until 2030. The key thing is avoiding another arrangement that leaves too much uncertainty. If there is a loan, it wants to be on terms that genuinely suit Forest, with a proper route to a sale and a fee that reflects his age and pedigree. If Frankfurt want a bargain because his minutes have dried up, that is their job. Forest do not need to rush into helping them. There is also a wider squad point here. If he is not going to play regularly, then moving him on and creating room for a more trusted option makes sense. If the club believe there is still a role for him, keep him. Simple enough. The only bad outcome would be drifting through another window without conviction. This feels like a decision Forest should make firmly and early.
