‘Every moment we have is important’ – Arsenal boss Slegers speaks ahead of Liverpool fixture

‘Every moment we have is important’ – Arsenal boss Slegers speaks ahead of Liverpool fixture Arsenal head coach Renée Slegers says that every game is important for her side as they look to build some improved form in the Barclays Women’s Super League. The Gunners have endured an underwhelming start which has seen them win just two of their eight league games. Arsenal face an important run of fixtures before the next international break, but head coach Slegers says that every game is defining in the context of the season. “I think everything is defining,” Slegers said when speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s trip to Liverpool. “It was at the start of the season and it’s even more so now. Every moment we have is important for us and for where we want to end up, results, how we want to present ourselves, how we want to make the club and the supporters proud as well. Every moment is defining, we know that. “The run of games that are ahead of us, they’re challenging and exciting games. Liverpool, we remember that game from last year, it was the last game in an Arsenal shirt for a couple of players and it was a special game for us, it was a special moment for us. We have good memories of the football that we played there. Everything is new now, but we’ll want to take that into the game on Sunday as well, and then the run of games. “There’s of course two big Champions League games coming up. We’re in a good position in the league phase, now of course facing Barcelona and Lyon in the next two, which we look forward to, to the big challenges and then London City, but Liverpool on Sunday.” Opponents Liverpool are yet to lose at home in the league this season. Slegers says that The Reds are a well-balanced and well-structured side. She said “I think they had a really good second half of the season last year as well. The game that we played there at Anfield last year, the first half, they were really brave and aggressive in their press. I think that’s something they do well. “They’re very structured with their in-possession, out-of-possession way they play. I think they’ve added some players to their squad as well. It looks really well balanced and I think they make it difficult for teams. They will try to do that on Sunday as well, which we’ll have to break down.” Arsenal’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Liverpool kicks-off at 12pm on Sunday afternoon.
