‘It’s a great opportunity for us’ – Manchester City boss Jeglertz previews West Ham game Manchester City head coach Andrée Jeglertz says that this weekend’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United provides his side with a great opportunity to continue their good form. The Cityzens play host to The Hammers at The Joie Stadium on Saturday afternoon. West Ham United arrive in the North West on the back of an excellent 4-1 win against Liverpool last time out, but Manchester City remain unbeaten and head coach Jeglertz says that the game provides an opportunity to continue their own good run. “The most important thing for a football team is confidence and they are coming [here] from a win last weekend which was impressive,” Jeglertz said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “They’re a good team, but we knew that before. We played them a couple of times last year and they were not easy games. “They are a good team, we are a good team, so I expect an exciting game. It’s a great opportunity for us to continue winning.” Going on to discuss West Ham United’s qualities, Jeglertz recognised the East Londoners’ individual attacking threats. He said “I think their attacking play is really threatening. They have speed and power attacking-wise and they are also solid in their defending. They’re a compact team and are working together. “Rita [Guarino] is doing a good job with that team. I think they’re better than last year with even more structure. “The individual qualities that they have in a couple of players is definitely going to challenge us.” Manchester City face a hectic run of matches before the next international break. Jeglertz wants his side to only focus on the next game. He said “Of course, we know that we have five games in two weeks and it’ll be troublesome, but that’s what we wanted. The most important thing is that we take one game at a time. If we start talking too much about other games, we will not be the best version of ourselves against West Ham. “Loading-wise, it’s up to us to make sure that we load the players right, but my only expectation on the players is that there are no other thoughts at the moment than about West Ham. We need to live one game at a time otherwise, we will be in trouble.” Manchester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United kicks-off at 12.45pm on Saturday afternoon.
