Ajax talent Youri Baas responds to Barcelona transfer interest: ‘Biggest club in the world’ Youri Baas has responded positively to reports linking him with Barcelona, describing the Catalan club as the biggest in the world after learning of their interest.  The 23-year-old Ajax defender has emerged as a candidate to strengthen Hansi Flick’s defence , with sporting director Deco monitoring his situation ahead of the January transfer window. Speaking to VoetbalPrimeur, as relayed by SPORT , Baas acknowledged that he had seen the speculation but insisted he had no knowledge of where it originated. “I’ve no idea where they’re coming from, but I have seen something. It’s nice, of course,” he explained before praising Barcelona’s stature. “I think it’s the biggest club in the world. It’s a huge compliment,” he added. That versatility is particularly relevant for Flick, whose defensive options have been affected by injuries in recent months.  For now, Barcelona are assessing different profiles , with Baas featuring a younger option who could provide flexibility across the back line. The defender’s contract with Ajax runs until 2028, meaning the Dutch club retains a strong negotiating position.  Barcelona are keeping close tabs on Youri Baas. Ajax performance highlights his adaptability Baas has established himself as an important member of Ajax’s defence and has already registered 16 appearances, scoring two goals and an assist. His latest outing offered a strong show of his positional flexibility.  During Ajax’s 6-1 victory over FC Midtjylland, manager Michel Sanchez deployed him in defensive midfield before replacing him in the 70th minute.
