China in contact with Real Madrid and La Liga after Mbappe controversy, confirms ambassador
China in contact with Real Madrid and La Liga after Mbappe controversy, confirms ambassador Kylian Mbappe’s comments leading up to the Ballon d’Or ceremony where he acknowledged meme mockups of him as Mao Zedong has caused a major uproar in China. This has led to multiple Chinese sponsors of Mbappe backing out while broadcasting of La Liga football in the country has been suspended. Mbappe and Real Madrid were quick to issue an apology but that hasn’t helped anything in reconciling things. However, after a tough few weeks, it appears things are heading in the right direction. Glimmer of hope from Chinese ambassador Yao Jing, the Chinese ambassador to Spain, has offered some hope with regards to the storm in China potentially subsiding. Mbappe’s troubles in China continue. This comes after French president Emmanuel Macron also said that the issue might dissipate soon . Jing, though, added that Mbappe’s comments have hurt Chinese sentiments, which might take some time to recover. “This unfortunate accident hurt the feelings of many people in China, which has to digest the current situation ,” he said. What’s the play for Real Madrid? Real Madrid and La Liga have tried reconciling with China. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images) As far as Real Madrid and Mbappe are concerned, there is nothing much the they can do, having already issued an unconditional apology to the people of China. Their game will be to wait and watch. Once the emotions die down in China, the representatives of the nation could be willing to negotiate with La Liga and Real Madrid once again. Until then, the pain is expected to continue for Real Madrid and La Liga, who have become unwanted victims of Mbappe’s comments. The Frenchman, for his part, is unlikely to find favour of the Chinese people anytime soon, which is quite the blow given the kind of support he used to have in the country.
