Spurs full of confidence and belief off the back of big wins says Ho
Spurs full of confidence and belief off the back of big wins says Ho Tottenham Hotspur head coach Martin Ho says that his side are full of confidence and belief following big wins against Bristol City and Birmingham City. The Lilywhites conceded 14 goals in three games as they fell to consecutive defeats to London City Lionesses, Chelsea and Arsenal. Spurs have since bounced back by defeating Bristol City 6-1 and Birmingham City 4-1. When speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s home Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion, Spurs boss Ho said that his side are full of confidence and belief. “Of the back of scoring that many goals, there’s a lot of confidence and belief,” Ho said. “I don’t think the belief changed [with defeats], but there was frustration there and urgency for us to get back to winning ways. “The mentality of the group now is that we’ve faced adversity and some bumps maybe and they’ve responded in the right way against a very in-form Birmingham team that still caused us some problems. The urgency of the team and the resilience of the team showed, the qualities showed through. “Getting back to winning ways is important not just for players, but for staff, for us as a collective and as a club. You want to make sure that we are competing on all fronts and showing our qualities. In those last two games, we’ve started to show it again.” Latest opponents Brighton & Hove Albion are led by Arturo Ruiz, who was appointed over the summer. Ho explained the similarities and differences between Ruiz and former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Dario Vidošić’s side. He said “With the ball, they are still very fluid and they rotate a lot. They’ve got a lot of fluidity in their attacking phase. I think that’s something they’ve held on to and it’s something that they’re really keen on in terms of characteristics from a player perspective. “The system is a change in terms of playing as a back-three and attacking maybe three-four or three, three-five-two. Off the ball, they’re aggressive in pressure, but more from a mid-block in terms of their pressing engagement line. They’re slightly lower than they were under Dario [Vidošić]. “The one thing that you can’t change or take away is the individual quality of the players that they possess. Some of the talent in that team is phenomenal. If you look at their squad as a whole, they have some of the best talent, the best players in this league.” Spurs have already beaten Brighton & Hove Albion this season. They defeated The Seagulls 1-0 in the Subway Players Cup. Ho commented on how that result impacts the upcoming meeting. He said “It doesn’t have much baring because that result doesn’t dictate how we perform and what we do here. What it does give you is some reference maybe and some kind of insight in terms of when we played them, how we set up and approached the game. Was that right or was that wrong? Were there areas that we kind of missed? It gives us some reference on the players and the characteristics that we want to start against those individual players. “What it does tell us is that they are a good team. They pushed us in the back end of the game, especially in the last 20 or so minutes, they pushed us on the back-foot. We know we had spells in the first half and part of the second half where we were good with the ball and we created opportunities against them.” Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
