Tottenham to submit formal complaint over Jayden Bogle decision

Tottenham Hotspur will submit a formal complaint to Pro Ref over the decision not to dismiss defender Jayden Bogle during the 1-0 defeat to Leeds at Elland Road . It is understood Tottenham believe Bogle should have been sent off and will write to refereeing body Pro Ref to seek an explanation as to why the incident did not result in a red card. Bogle lunged into a tackle on Spurs forward Mathys Tel and landed on Tel’s ankle with his left foot. The on-field decision from referee John Brooks was to award a foul to Spurs but issue no cards of further punishment to Bogle. The game was paused as Tel received treatment on the pitch and the Video Assistant Referee looked in detail at the incident. The decision from the VAR arrived after a four-minte review with Tony Harrington opting against calling Brooks to the pitch-side monitor to review the challenge himself. The challenge was deemed “reckless” but the match continued with Bogle left unpunished and Tel eventually forced off due to lingering affects on his Achilles. The incident came just a week after Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta was sent off for a similar challenge in Spurs' win over the Eagles. Later in the game, Tottenham’s Pedro Porro wa shown a yellow card for a challenge similar to Bogle’s which infuriated manager Roberto de Zerbi . Mathys Tel had to be subbed off due to a lingering niggle following Jayden Bogle's tackle (PA) "I have big confidence in the referee. Nothing changes if he goes to the monitor," said De Zerbi. "If they didn't take the right decision I don't know. We have to keep the eyes on the performance where can improve. "I was surprised on the yellow card for Pedro Porro because it was clear. The potential red card, I couldn't say. We have full confidence in the referee and VAR. I cannot say nothing more."
