Real Madrid dressing room infuriated by referees permitting heavy fouls against them
Real Madrid dressing room infuriated by referees permitting heavy fouls against them Despite Real Madrid winning quite comfortably at Mestalla last night, the experience at the venue left the team very frustrated, and understandably so. After all, there seemed to be no limit to the number and variety of fouls the Valencia players were permitted to make on the night, and Los Blancos were frustrated by the unwarranted physicality. In fact, it is not even the first time this season that opponents have been allowed to foul Real Madrid openly, and the situation is now bothering the dressing room. The game against Valencia last night saw the team take 26 fouls, which boiled down to one every three and a half minutes. That number is the highest of any game in this season’s La Liga. While there is no explainable reason why Real Madrid players are not being protected by the referees, there is a feeling that the club’s ongoing feud with the referees is having an impact on the on-field decisions – something which cannot be tolerated. The players, in that sense, are furious at how their games are being refereed and at the double standards that are being exposed with every passing match day. The game against Valencia has now seen their rage peak. Not for the first time Relations between Real Madrid and the referees are not great. Last night’s game is one, but Real Madrid’s games against Getafe in December 2024 and October 2025 saw the team receive 26 and 27 fouls, respectively, as well. Even in terms of this season alone, Real Madrid have been at the receiving end of 171 fouls in 12 games, with Racing Santander behind them on 161. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, notably, are far behind on 108 and 113, respectively. Among the various players in La Liga, Jude Bellingham is the most fouled, with 31 fouls received in the league. Four of the top ten are from Real Madrid on that front, with Vinicius Jr., Kylian Mbappe and Arda Guler joining him.
