Monaco’s Mamadou Coulibaly to face sanction following controversial goal celebration

Monaco’s Mamadou Coulibaly to face sanction following controversial goal celebration AS Monaco’s Mamadou Coulibaly (22) has certainly landed himself in a tricky situation. Having scored his side’s opening goal against Le Mans (1-1) – the first of his Ligue 1 season – on Sunday, the midfielder celebrated by miming a slit throat. A gesture which, a few weeks ago, had already earned his team-mate Paris Brunner (20) a four-match suspension – two of which were mandatory – from the Professional Football League (LFP) disciplinary committee. A sanction that could – and should – also apply to Coulibaly, who, after the match, apologised for his gesture, having explained at half-time that it was “a tribute to a friend who had told me to do it” . Filipe Luis, who had defended Brunner whilst explaining that the club was taking the matter very seriously and expressing his hope that it would not happen again, will undoubtedly have a word with his player. All the more so following the events of September. GFFN | Léo Aschi
